Trip to L.A.

We went to L.A. (Pomona) this week for Brad's first medical school interview. I thought Utah drivers were crazy, but I now know California drivers are insane! The speed limit was 55, we were going 70 and cars were still whizzing by us on both sides, I felt like the turtle who likes everything slow on the comcast comercials! Brad's interview went well, although he had Mr. intense interigator as in interviewer. The girl who was interviewd before him walked out with bugged out eyes looking like she just saw someone get shot and almost triping over her own feet- bad sign! We'll hopefully find out soon if he got in. As of right now he has an interview scheduled for Kansas and Pennsylvania so if this one was a bust we're covered! Pomona is the GHETTO! Their polite way of acknowlging the environment was to say "it's not dangerous here but many people choose to live in the surrounding cities and commute daily".

Proposition 8

Being temporarily Californians now we have had the opportunity to help with proposition 8 (it would change the constitution to read that marriage is only between a man and woman). Last weekend we stood on the corner and held up "YES ON 8" signs. A new experience to say the least. I was surprised at how many people honked in support. We did get a few fingers, and I'm not talking about a thumbs up, but it felt good to take part in local politics. The wards and many of the local churches around here are taking a stance in this measure, it is really neat to see everyone come together. Our bishop put this little picture together, kind of funny

Guess I'd better take out the trash more often...

It's hard to see but those little dark spots are millions of ants marching after a piece of ham in the garbage! There were no ants when we went to bed, but when we woke up they formed a line from the garbage up the wall all the way to the ceiling, then around the corner, down the hallway, around the 4 corners of the entry way all the way and finally into this tiny hole in a corner next to the ceiling- yuck! I should have checked, but I think we could have set a world record for longest ant line. By the way the best way to kill ants is bleach, it kills them instantly, you just have to wipe up their annoying little carcasses.

Pumpkin Patch

Last weekend we went up to Portland, my mom and I took Sophie to her first pumpkin patch. It was really neat, you pay to get in then you get a hay ride, you get to pick out your pumpkin from the patch, free hot coco, corn maze, and 2 pumpkin launches. When we got home we carved the pumpkin and put soph inside! First we dressed the little Sophster in her kitty costume
Mom and Sophie in the pumpkin patch
the corn maze was 6 acres and took 45 minutes to do with a map! (us with our free coco)
The coolest thing I've done in a long time was the pumpkin lauching. You put a little pumpkin in a huge slingshot and try to launch it into a barrel 50-75 feet away.
So we took the guts out of the pumpkin then cut two holes out of the back so i could stick my hands in and hold her up. She was thought it was pretty cool at first...
Then she started eating the pumpkin and my hands slipped so she was kneeling in the pumpkin and rightfully decided "this sucks!" (if she develops a pumpkin allergy I guess i'll have to take the blame, anything for a funny picture, right?)

So still looking for a good picture we cut open the back of the pumpkin and let her hang out, she liked this much better!
Here I think she is contemplating if she inherited the insanity of her parents
I love the little toes!

I'm a Real Nurse!

I PASSED MY NCLEX (national nursing test)!!!!

sophie and solids

We started with a spoon and obviously that did not go over so well...She seemed to like eating off my finger much better
I'm pretty sure more cereal ended up on her face than actually in her stomach
This is my little gem pooping out our trial run! Easy come easy go!

The results are in

I'm starting to believe that all this crying was well worth it! Thank you Lindsay for all your advice and support! Soph now goes to bed at 7:30 and takes 3 naps a day with no more than a few minutes of whimpering. This is totally the life! She saw the doctor the other day and now weighs 15.1 pounds (the doc says she definitely not starving!) and is 26 inches long. We are heading out to Oregon this weekend for Brad to shaddow a doctor and for me to take my RN test... hopefully the nightmare known as the NCLEX will be over soon!

Sleep Training & Solid food

So tonight was day one of sleep training 2008. Soph cried for 31 minutes, I was pleasantly suprised! Brad bet 2 hours of crying and I thought 45 minutes. It is also day 2 of solid foods, thats not going as well. She mostly just drools it out and maybe swallows 1/2 a teaspoon. We figure it's worth the mess just to see the funny faces! Pictures to follow tomorrow!
